Origin of the "drop-off" lesson (added June 12, 2019): Russ told me that he got the idea for the "drop-off" lesson one day when he was returning home and was dropped off at the wrong house.
After the driver left, he realized something was wrong, and figured out how to find his house.
He decided the soldiers in his program should also be prepared for when the same thing happened to them.
And thus, the "drop-off" lesson was born and became an integral part of the O&M program!
It is used today to teach students problem-solving skills for whenever they become lost, for whatever reason.
