Diary from China -- Friday, July 22, 2005 (day of arrival); Shanghai, China

 

Excerpted from Diary:  Being in Shanghai is delightful – I am enjoying seeing a city very different from anything we have at home, lots of beautiful old buildings (but filled with touristy stores!), streets bustling with bicycles, cars and buses [photo above].  Today, after lunch, four of us went to a beautiful garden constructed 600 years ago, very historic and with many man-made rock “mountains” and ponds [photos below].
