CHECKLISTS

for Preparing Students to Assess and Cross Where There is No Traffic Control

Barbara Seever, COMS and I developed some checklists which may help prompt you to cover all the aspects of instruction / assessment necessary to prepare visually impaired students to assess and cross streets with no traffic control. Before using these checklists, you should become familiar with the concepts, skills, and tools needed for these crossings in the Self-Study Guide.

SKILLS AND CONCEPTS CHECKLISTS:


From the following Skills and Concepts Checklists, choose the one that is most appropriate for your student:

• "Using Vision" is for students who have functional vision but not enough hearing to be able to detect approaching vehicles effectively.
• "Using Hearing" is for students who have functional hearing but not enough vision to be able to detect approaching vehicles effectively.
• "Using Vision & Hearing" is for students whose vision and hearing may each be sufficient in some situations to determine when it is clear to cross.
  
  
In the top left corner of each of these 3 checklists is a list of other checklists that it requires. These other checklists are all listed below.

Several checklists require multiple trials of instruction / assessment, and provide a separate page of checklists that can be filled out for each trial situation. The information collected in each trial situation is then entered into a chart so you can see the results at a glance. Print out enough pages of these separate checklists to have one for each trial situation.
